Space Station 76 – Jack Plotnick
Jessica (Liv Tyler) arrives on the rather odd, 70’s style space station – Omega 76 to find the inhabitants dealing in various way with the travails of living in space and of life in general – the ennui of relationships gone cold, children that maybe came at the wrong time, sexual frustration and loneliness.
Some turn to drugs, others live in a world of denial and delusion – if it all sounds a bit heavy that’s because it’s actually pretty serious about the subject matter despite the immaculate surroundings and the charmingly fun 70’s styling.
It’s a bit like Dazed and Confused crossed with Galaxy Quest – not as slapstick as the latter and thankfully nowhere near Anchorman and it’s ilk despite how it might seem so from the look of the moustached-captain..
It’s slow,a bit confused and meanders but with such a great look and performances those things seem like pluses to me and if you like movies that aren’t even sure what kind of movies they are but don’t really care then you might like it too.
