Tsunehisa Kimura 木村恒久 & Oblivion – Joseph Kosinski


Some movies seem built around a single image – a surreal-juxtaposition that just invites the jaw to the floor. The above collage on the left was created by Tsunehisa Kimura in the 70’s and on the right is the poster for the movie Oblivion which looks like a cross between Wall-E and Minority Report and seems to be somewhat ‘inspired’ by the Kimura’s work.

Below are some more of his images created in the days before Photoshop made things like this a breeze – the image of a devastated Sydney is from the cover of Midnight Oil’s album “Red Sails in the Sunset” and blew my mind as a kid as I tried to figure out how it had been done.
