Well I liked Joseph Kosinski’s Tron Legacy a lot but Tom Cruise? really? can’t he start a farm for injured animals or something – I just feel he’d done enough acting for this lifetime a long time ago.. I mean what can he offer that you haven’t seen before?
Tron Legacy was a little bit above average quality, from my point of view. If you liked it, though, have you checked out Tron: Uprising tv series? Tom Cruise might be weird choice, but let’s not dismiss it before we have seen it. Maybe he is up to the role. And maybe not
This one looks really good though – Elysium by Neil Blomkamp – there’s not much on the web right now but this from an interview with the Producer Simon Kinberg whets my appetite:
“I can’t tell you what the big themes are, but I can tell you that there are big themes. He’s (Blomkamp) someone who’s really interested in the world. He’s not a filmmaker who’s only interested in other movies. He’s somebody who’s interested in the politics of the world, the reality of the world. Whatever kind of movie he makes in whatever genre, it’s never simply going to be a synthetic movie about the movies he liked growing up. It’s always going to be about something bigger, and this movie is too.”
- sci-fi needs more Directors like this – one’s that don’t just stick some CGI spaceships on the screen and blow some shit up to an thumping score.. trouble is that kind of crap keeps making money.. and i keep whoring my blog on the visuals
It’s not that he’s a bad actor I just think there comes a point where you can’t see the character anymore you just see TOM CRUISE!!! and I think he reached that point a while ago.
I’m actually looking forward to this one
